T45 Steel
Every Tora frame begins with a carefully chosen material. For us, that material is T45 steel: a high-performance aerospace-grade alloy selected for its exceptional strength, durability and ride characteristics.
Known technically as BS4 T45 to BS5 T100, T45 is a seamless carbon-based steel tube with outstanding tensile and yield properties. Its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio has made it a trusted material in some of the most demanding industries, from motorsport and defence to aerospace engineering.
The advantage of T45 lies in its ability to deliver remarkable strength without unnecessary weight. Its high mechanical properties allow us to use refined tube profiles with thinner walls than traditional steel frames, creating a structure that is strong, resilient and responsive while retaining the distinctive ride quality that makes steel such a desirable frame material.
We believe a frame should be more than a collection of numbers and specifications. It should have character, resilience and the ability to be ridden for years to come. T45 provides the perfect foundation for our frames, combining aerospace heritage, modern engineering and the timeless qualities that make steel such a unique material.
With a history spanning more than 70 years, T45 was originally developed for aerospace applications where strength, precision and reliability were essential. Its use in iconic aircraft including the Supermarine Spitfire and Hawker Hurricane demonstrates the confidence placed in this material for critical structures. Today, it continues to be used in specialist applications where performance cannot be compromised.
